Complaints and grievances

Including how to go over our heads, which is on this page on purpose.

Nobody loses their bed for complaining. Retaliation against a resident, a family member or a staff member for raising a concern or contacting a regulator is prohibited, and it is treated here as one of the most serious things a person can do.
Verify the external contact details before publishing. Regulator names, addresses and complaint lines change. Each one below marked with a highlight must be confirmed against the agency's current published information, and confirmed again at least annually.

Telling us

  1. Say it to any staff member. Most things are fixable the same day, and this is the fastest route. You do not have to put it in writing first.
  2. Put it in writing if you would rather. Forms are in the house and you can also email Eric@aftermathrehabilitation.com. You can submit it anonymously, though that limits what we can come back to you about.
  3. We acknowledge it within [N] business days and give you a written answer within [N] days, saying what we found and what we are doing.
  4. If you are not satisfied, it goes to the administrator, and after that to [GOVERNING BODY / OWNER]. You will get that answer in writing too.

Every grievance is logged, including the ones we disagree with, and the log is available to inspectors.

Going outside, at any point

You do not have to exhaust our process first. You can contact any of these directly, at any time, and you can do it instead of telling us rather than as well.

State oversight

California Department of Health Care Services
Substance Use Disorder Compliance Division. DHCS licenses and certifies alcohol and drug treatment programs. Aftermath is housing and is not licensed by DHCS, so DHCS is the right place to report a residence that is providing treatment without a license, and the wrong place for a complaint about housing conditions.

Getting help to complain

If writing is the obstacle, ask any staff member and we will write it down as you say it, or call the agency with you and hand you the phone. Doing that is part of the job here, including when the complaint is about us.
